Big Dave’s 5 Nuggets Of Knowledge For Your Noggin’ – (9/14/23)

Here are Big Dave’s 5 Nuggets of Knowledge for your Noggin’ – on this Thursday, September 14th, 2023. Let’s learn something together:

  1. Since 1978, the four majors in tennis have been contested on three surfaces:  Clay, hard court, and grass.  Winning on ALL of them in one year has been called a “Surface Slam.”  In singles, it’s been accomplished by two men:  Rafael Nadal in 2010 and Novak Djokovic in 2021 . . . and three women:  Martina Navratilova in 1984, Steffi Graf in 1988, 1993, 1995, and 1996, and Serena Williams in 2002 and 2015.
  2. The word “collision” is only supposed to be used when two moving objects hit each other.  When one moving object hits something standing still, that’s called an “allision.”
  3. Even though “Borat” made Kazakhstan look racist and the country threatened to SUE Sacha Baron Cohen over the movie, tourism went up 1,000% the year after it came out.
  4. There are 41 independent cities in the U.S., which means they aren’t part of a county.  Thirty-eight of them are in Virginia.  The other three are Baltimore, Maryland . . . St. Louis, Missouri . . . and Carson City, Nevada.
  5. Ian Fleming only wrote three books that weren’t about James Bond and one of them was “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”.
