It’s been 43 years since the first “Smokey and the Bandit” movie came out.
Now it’s being revived as a TV show.
No network is attached yet, but it’s being developed by Seth MacFarlane from “Family Guy”, along with David Gordon Green, Danny McBride, and the creative team who worked on the HBO show “Eastbound & Down”.
Which is interesting, since that title seems to have been inspired by the “Smokey and the Bandit” theme song, which is also called “East Bound and Down“.
It’s unclear if the show will have any formal connections to the movie, especially since it’s been so long since it came out.
Burt Reynolds passed away in 2018, and Jackie Gleason, Jerry Reed, Pat McCormick, and “Fred” the Basset Hound are no longer with us.
Of course, Sally Field is still around.
