The Top 5 Reasons People Speed

Do you feel the need…the need…for SPEED?!

Someone conducted a study to understand why people SPEED, and came up with a list of the top five reasons people drive too fast.

Here’s what they found:

  1. There’s no traffic, so they feel it’s safe to drive faster than the speed limit.
  2. They’re a “good driver,” so they think they can drive safely at high speeds.
  3. There doesn’t seem to be any police, so they think they can get away with it.
  4. They believe that the posted speed limit is slower than necessary.
  5. They think empty roads are an opportunity to see how fast their car can go.

For the study, people were specifically asked about driving during the pandemic and 10% admitted to driving more than 20 miles per hour over the limit at some point during the past year and a half.

Some other reasons people might speed include:

  • Being late.
  • Having impaired judgment.
  • Not knowing what the speed limit is.
