Rock Bands Named After Real People
A rock band’s name has to stand out, so why not use someone else’s?
Ultimate Classic Rock has shared 15 bands that were named after real people.
Of course, there’s Lynyrd Skynyrd, who was named after a gym teacher, but did you know that Pink Floyd was named after two blues artists (Pink Anderson and Floyd Council)?
Then you’ve got the Hollies named after, you guessed it, Buddy Holly.
Here’s the whole list from Ultimate Classic Rock:
Pink Floyd
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Jethro Tull
Mookie Blaylock (eventually Pearl Jam)
ZZ Top
Jane’s Addiction
The Hollies
Tesla
Dead Kennedys
Van Der Graaf Generator
Marshall Tucker Band
Kings of Leon
Molly Hatchett
Greta Van Fleet
Marilyn Manson
Editor’s Note: Nope, Alice Copper wasn’t any of the band members grandmothers name as has been rumored. It’s just a name they came up with. When the band split, Vincent Furnier officially changed his name to Alice Cooper and went solo.
