It’s never easy for a rock band to replace its lead singer. Some succeed, some fail… and some are merely forgotten.
The folks at Ultimate Classic Rock have put together a list of 27 ‘forgotten frontmen’ (and women). Here are a few highlights:
Robert Fleischman (Journey) – He joined the band in 1977 and lasted just a few months before he was replaced by some guy named Steve Perry.
Bekka Bramlett (Fleetwood Mac) – in the mid-90’s, Bramlett toured with a Fleetwood Mac lineup that was missing both Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie. She even sings on the 1995 album Time, but was shown the door when Nicks returned two years later.
Honorable Mention: Black Sabbath – In between Ozzy Osbourne, Ronnie James Dio, and Tony Martin, the heavy metal godfathers featured a revolving door of forgotten frontmen – including Dave Walker, Ron Keel, David Donato, Jeff Fenholt, and Ray Gillen.
