National Donut Day: What’s Your Favorite?
Happy National Donut Day! A recent survey found only 4% of Americans don’t like donuts, and 1% HATE them. Our favorite types are glazed, Boston cream, chocolate frosted, jelly, and chocolate cake.
I checked the Facebook pages & websites for local donut shops, like Momo’s Donuts, 903 Donuts, Southern Maid Donuts, etc. and (as of 7:30am) only one – 903 Donuts – has posted about a specific deal for National Donut Day. But, it’s possible the others just haven’t posted their specials, yet.
There are several other donut shops in the U.S. that are offering deals for National Donut Day, though:
Krispy Kreme is handing out free donuts, no questions asked. Just pop in and snag a free one. You don’t have to buy anything.
Dunkin’ has a deal too, but you have to buy coffee or some other beverage. Purchase a drink, and you get one “classic” donut for free. That includes things like glazed, chocolate frosted, and jelly donuts. Just no specialty items.
Some smaller chains like Duck Donuts and Shipley have deals as well.
The Salvation Army has free donuts in a lot of cities, too. They started National Donut Day in 1938 as a fundraising thing to honor their “Donut Lassies” who handed them out to soldiers in World War One.
And, finally, how about a BONUS Donut Nugget of Knowledge for your Noggin’: Canada is the biggest donut eating country in the world! They have more donut shops per capita and eat more than any other country.
