Metallica’s Robert Trujillo Once Starred in an Episode of ‘CHiPs’
Sometimes, you find little gems of pop culture way after it’s happened. In the case of this 1982 episode of CHiPs, there was a breakthrough role for Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo.
At 18 years old, Trujillo played a character named Flippy. In the Halloween spirit, Flippy is arrested after setting up pumpkins on a street for cars to run over. In an opportunity to get out of trouble, Flippy befriends Erik Estrada’s Ponch, who has the young man chaperone kids for trick-or-treating. Flippy is eventually rescued from underneath a fuel tank that is close to exploding.
Not necessarily ground-breaking television, but it was certainly Trujillo’s most recognized acting role before he moved on to music and hitting strides in Metallica.
