Jeff Bezos Is Spending Millions of Dollars to Build a 10,000-Year Clock Inside a Texas Mountain

Wow! The COVID-19 pandemic has Amazon.com prioritizing “essential items” for all their customers, but, JEFF BEZOS is definitely building a NON-ESSENTIAL item here in the Lone Star State.

According to Popular Mechanics, Bezos is paying engineers and contractors to build a massive, multi-room clock inside a mountain in West Texas on land that he owns. It’s called the Clock of the Long Now.

The clock is designed to tell time for the next 10,000 years. It will tick just once a year and chime once per millennium. The clock will be 500 feet tall, and quote, “all mechanical, powered by day / night thermal cycles, and synchronized at solar noon.”

So far, $42 million has been spent to build the clock.

Bezos explained the clock as a way to remind people that the far future not only exists, but will happen to their descendants. If you want to know more about the project, here is a link to the official website for the 10,000 Year Clock.

Personally, I think this whole thing sounds like a real life version of Neal Stephenson’s amazing sci-fi book – Anathem! So, if you start hearing about people being recruited to live INSIDE the clock as monks & caretakers…you’ll know I’m right!
