Weather Alert

It’s STAR TREK Day 2020! Here’s how you can celebrate with Big Dave.

In the age old battle between Star Wars & Star Trek – Star Trek will always be my #1 pick!

Sure, I like Star Wars. Plus, Stargate & a whole bunch of other Sci-Fi shows & movies. But, I’d rather boldly go where no one has gone before than visit a galaxy far, far away.

So, as a good Trekkie – I know that it was on this day – September 8th, 1966 – the original pilot episode of Star Trek: The Original Series (TOS) “The Man Trap” aired on TV.

Since I know there are a lot of Trekkies in the #MadRockNation – CBS All Access is hosting a special celebration of Star Trek Day here — https://www.startrek.com/day.

There will be several streamed episodes (see the schedule here) from all eight Star Trek TV series, plus special streamed global panels hosted by Wil Wheaton (Shut up, Wesley) & Mica Barton starting at 2pm Central Time on that website, featuring cast members from the different series, including:

  • Star Trek: Discovery featuring Sonequa Martin-Green, David Ajala plus showrunners and executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise.
  • Star Trek: Strange New Worlds featuring Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn & Ethan Peck.
  • Star Trek: Enterprise featuring Scott Bakula, Linda Park, John Billingsley, Dominic Keating, Anthony Montgomery & Connor Trinneer.
  • Star Trek: Deep Space Nine featuring Terry Farrell, Alexander Siddig, Armin Shimerman, Nana Visitor, Cirroc Lofton plus executive producer Ira Steven Behr.
  • Star Trek: The Original Series featuring George Takei and Gene Roddenberry’s son, Rod Roddenberry.
  • Star Trek: Lower Decks featuring Jack Quaid, Tawny Newsome, Noël Wells, Eugene Cordero plus series creator, showrunner and executive producer Mike McMahan.
  • Star Trek: Voyagerfeaturing Kate Mulgrew, Robert Picardo, Robert McNeill, Garrett Wang, Tim Russ & Ethan Phillips.
  • Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: The Next Generation featuring Patrick Stewart & Jonathan Frakes.

Of course, William Shatner (aka Captain James T. Kirk) is apparently NOT happy about being left out of the festivities & has called out Alex Kurtzman. Not sure why that happened, but the way he’s throwing a fit in the media just gives more credence to all the stories about him being difficult to deal with. Here’s some more info about that:

As a bonus, here are The Top Fun Facts About the Original “Star Trek”.

  • William Shatner got an inner-ear disorder from an explosion on the set, which explains his later “music” career.
  • Spock was the only cast member to appear in the pilot, which you’d know if you’ve ever been on a date with Big Dave.
  • Die hard “Star Trek” fans are called “Trekkies.” And also, “lonely.”
  • William Shatner’s toupee had its own trailer.
  • Some of the alien creature costumes cost nearly $1.95 to make!
  • There are only three or four episodes where William Shatner does not overact.
  • Crew members in red shirts worked part time at Target.
  • When the Vulcan nerve pinch didn’t work, Spock used the Vulcan kick-in-the-crotch technique.
