Master of Puppets, the landmark 3rd album by Metallica, was released on this day in 1986 and would quickly become legendary. The last to feature bassist Cliff Burton (Burton was killed in a tragic bus accident during the albums promotional tour) “Master” would go on to become the first ever “Thrash Metal” album certified platinum. In 2015 it became the first metal recording to be selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”. The record would sit on the Billboard Top 200 for an astounding 72 weeks an incredible feat for a metal band with virtually no radio airplay.
Happy Birthday to Master of Puppets
