Inspired by his brother Jimmie, Stevie began playing guitar at the age of 7. In 1971 he made the decision to quit High School and move to Austin Texas to pursue his career. After playing with several local and national bands between 1971 and 1977, Vaughan formed Triple Threat Revue, who would soon change it’s name to Double Trouble following the addition of  drummer Chris Layton and bassist Tommy Shannon. The bands debut album Texas Flood, released in 1983 was recorded in just 3 days using no overdubs and Vaughan along with his Double trouble bandmates would release 5 studio albums between ’83 and ’91. On Monday, August 27, 1990, Stevie Ray Vaughan along with members of Eric Claptons entourage had just finished playing at Alpine Valley Music theater in East Troy Wisconsin when the helicopter they were travelling in crashed into a ski hill just after takeoff. Vaughan and the 4 other passengers were killed instantly.

Happy Birthday Stevie Ray, your legacy lives on in Texas and around the world.
