Big Dave’s 5 Nuggets Of Knowledge For Your Noggin’ – (5/10/24)

Here are Big Dave’s 5 Nuggets of Knowledge for your Noggin’ – on this Friday, May 10th, 2024. Let’s learn something together:

  1. America was 100 years old before there was a Pledge of Allegiance.  The Pledge was first published in 1892, coinciding with the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’ arrival in the Americas.  It was composed by Baptist minister Francis Bellamy, a Christian socialist, in an effort to boost patriotism.  Originally, it only had 23 words.  The phrase “of the United States of America” wasn’t originally included and the words “under God” were added in 1954.
  2. There are three U.S. presidents who had double digit siblings: James Madison had 11 brothers and sisters, while George Washington and James Buchanan both had 10.
  3. Even though it’s a much bigger and more famous city now, Vancouver, British Columbia was actually incorporated 29 years after Vancouver, Washington.
  4. There are more blue and orange M&M’s in a pack of M&M’s than any other colors.
  5. Toyota was originally called Toyoda, with a “d,” because the founder’s name was Sakichi Toyoda.  But after one year they decided to change it, since “toyoda” means “fertile rice paddies” and they didn’t want to be associated with farming.
