Here are Big Dave’s 5 Nuggets of Knowledge for your Noggin’ on this Wednesday – March 1st, 2023. Let’s learn something together:
- A 2015 survey by the U.S. Energy Information Administration found that 30% of the country . . . around 35 million households . . . have at least two refrigerators “plugged in and turned on” at all times.
- For 17 years before Milton Hershey founded Hershey’s Chocolate, he tried to make caramels. He finally got interested in chocolate in 1893.
- The ratio of cookie to cream in an Oreo cookie is 71% cookie, 29% cream.
- The Spice Girls got their nicknames from a magazine. A British magazine called “Top of the Pops” did a story on them in 1996 and the writer and illustrator included a cartoon of them in a spice rack, labeled Ginger, Scary, Sporty, Baby, and Posh.
- The Titanic sank in 1912, but the last survivor was alive until 14 years ago. Millvina Dean was two months old when her family went on the Titanic . . . she survived on a life boat and died in 2009 at age 97. She participated in some Titanic-related events in her later years . . . but she refused to watch the movie “Titanic”. And you can’t blame her. She, her mother, and her brother all survived . . . but her father did not.
