1. The National Cancer Institute estimates that nearly 40% of men and women will be diagnosed with some type of cancer at some point during their lifetimes.
2. 32 female actresses under 30 have won the Oscar for Best Actress.  The youngest was Marlee Matlin, who was just 21 when she won for “Children of a Lesser God”.  But only ONE male actor under 30 has ever won the Oscar for Best Actor . . . Adrien Brody won for “The Pianist” when he was 29.
3. Coffee tables are a result of prohibition.  Before 1920, the tables in living rooms were called “cocktail tables.”  But once alcohol became illegal, people started serving coffee to their guests instead, and the name “coffee table” stuck.
4. The guy who invented the Slinky had a nervous breakdown, moved to Bolivia to be a missionary . . . or possibly join a cult, the details are sketchy . . . left his company to his wife, and never came back.
5. More than 80 countries celebrate Labor Day on May 1st, and call it International Workers’ Day.  The U.S. and Canada are the only two that celebrate it on the first Monday of September.  But, in Kazakhstan, it’s celebrated on the LAST Sunday in September.
