Big Dave’s 5 Nuggets Of Knowledge For Your Noggin’ (1/21/22)

Here are Big Dave’s 5 Random Facts for your Friday – January 21st, 2022. Let’s learn something together:

  1. Catnip is more effective at repelling mosquitoes than DEET, the main substance used in insect repellents.
  2. In 2014, Netflix spent $0 on marketing its DVD rental business, and yet over 6 million people still used it.
  3. Fyodor Dostoevsky wrote one of his most famous books, “The Gambler”, because he needed quick cash . . . to pay off gambling debts.
  4. There’s an Aboriginal language in Australia called Mbabaram where the word for dog is “dog.”  It’s a pure coincidence . . . they didn’t know it was called a “dog” in English, that’s just the word they randomly chose themselves.
  5. China SHOULD be split into five time zones, but since 1949 the entire country has been on the same time zone for “national unity.”  That creates some crazy time changes at its borders. The largest is at its border with Afghanistan. When you cross over, there’s immediately a three-and-a-half-hour time difference.

Be sure to use one of these little tidbits in your life this weekend!
