Beware of Fake Coronavirus Texts and Robocalls
Only scum would find a way to profit from a pandemic and that’s exactly what thieves are trying to do with a recent wave of fake text messages and robocalls going around about COVID-19.
State and federal officials around the country want you to beware of any text messages that may tell you that you’ve been around someone with COVID-19. Don’t click any links!
Other scams include robocalls offering protective equipment, bogus treatments, financial relief and more. Remember, the person on the line doesn’t care about you; they only care about getting your personal info to steal your identity or bank info.
The FTC has collected more than 20,000 complaints related to COVID-19, with half of those who filed complaints saying they’ve lost around $560 per scam.
