Artimus Pyle, the drummer of Lynyrd Skynyrd for most of the seventies, is paying tribute to his late bandmate, guitarist Gary Rossington.
Pyle says the first thing he did when he heard the news that Rossington had died, was pull up the last text messages between the two.
He explained, “I’ve already gone back, looked at them, and read the entire thread. And I will cherish these texts for the rest of my life.”
Pyle replaced original Skynyrd drummer Bob Burns in 1975 and is now the only living member of the band.
He said, “As it turns out, being the last living member of Lynyrd Skynyrd is not all it’s cracked up to be. It’s painful, and I’m trying to process it and deal with it.”
Rossington died March 5 at the age of 71 after years of health issues.
