“I don’t talk much. I just like to play,” singer/guitarist/CCR legend John Fogerty said early on during his show at Choctaw Casino in Durant, Oklahoma, during the summer of 2014.
With so many classics to play, there was indeed no time for mindless, self-serving banter. It is interesting to observe the differences in rock musicians and their onstage ‘personas’; several offer repetitive 10-minute nonsensical monologues and drunkenly pick fights with the crowd, while others — such as Fogerty, obviously — remain quiet and just play.
Fogerty’s outstanding 20-song set lasted well over two hours, offering crowd favorites such as CCR’s timeless “Born on the Bayou” and “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?” as well as his solo material such as the unforgettable “The Old Man Down the Road”. There are definitely too many musicians who are halfheartedly going through the motions these days; Fogerty is certainly not among them. His passion for playing live remains abundantly clear, and his happiness was contagious to the diverse crowd.
